The Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital Summer Block Party and Health Fair on June 27 promises to be bigger and better than ever, spotlighting the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Rotary Fitness Park in Big Rapids.
The outdoor gym is located across from the youth soccer fields on River Street, on the corner of
Oak and Willow Streets next to the hospital, formerly Centennial Park. The park is now home to a
new, 30-station outdoor gym funded by the Big Rapids Rotary Club, Spectrum Health and the
City of Big Rapids.
“It’s going to be a great evening of family fun, food and music,” said event coordinator Danielle
Wells of Spectrum Health. “We’re very excited to introduce the outdoor gym opening this year.
This event has grown to become an annual celebration of all things healthy, except for maybe the
dessert,” she joked.
The health fair, with more than 20 interactive booths, provides free health education and
information from Spectrum Health and from a variety of community organizations. The Spectrum
Health/YMCA Veggie Van will be on-site giving away produce.
Free diabetes screenings and blood pressure checks will also be available.
The health fair is from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by the gym opening celebration.
A $5 meal will be offered that includes a walking taco and dessert. Children under 12 can eat
free. Proceeds from the meal will go toward community health diabetes screenings.
