Cox and 19 other AG's asking Judge to throw out Federal Health Care law

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox and Attorneys General from 19 other states are asking a US District Court Judge in Florida to throw out the Federal Health Care Law without trial. The Attorneys General argue the law violates the Constitution by forcing people to buy health insurance by 2014 or face penalties. But, President Obama’s administration contends that Americans should not be allowed to opt out because everyone requires medical care. The Obama administration is asking for a summary judgment on their behalf, arguing the states don't have standing to challenge the law. (MRN)

Short-barreled guns

Attorney General Mike Cox has issued an opinion that shorter-barreled guns such as the "Super Shorty," which is not sawed-off shotguns, can carried by people who register the weapons as a pistol. State law bans a person from cutting down the barrel of a shotgun. Buying, selling or owning a sawed-off shotgun is a five-year felony. However, Cox says a modified shotgun, with an overall length of less than 26 inches and a barrel length of less than 18 inches can be registered as a pistol. The Super-Shorty, manufactured by Serbu Firearms, is a 12-gauge pump shotgun available with pistol grips.

Cox stands behind lawsuit

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox says he stands behind the lawsuit filed against the Federal Government challenging President Obama's recently-passed healthcare reform legislation. 20 states and the National Federation of Independent Businesses filed the lawsuit alleging the law infringes on the constitutional rights of Americans by mandating all citizens either obtain health insurance or pay a penalty. In a statement, Cox said the Obama Administration, quote, "is brushing off the valid constitutional concerns of twenty states and thousands of job-creating entrepreneurs."

Attorney General Mike Cox joined 12-other attorneys general in filing suit claiming the unconstitutionality of health care legislation signed into law by President Obama. The White House predicts the lawsuit will fail.
