Police identify juvenile suspects in Barryton break-ins

Police in the village of Barryton say four juveniles were identified in connection to the recent break-ins on Norman Street. Some property was recovered from one of the juvenile's residences.  Investigation is continuing.  All juvenile's names are being withheld at this time and petition's are being forwarded to the court.  It was found that over $1300 in property had been taken along with approximately $300 in damages.

Pair of ORV accidents occur in Mecosta Co.

There were a few ORV accidents in Mecosta County over the weekend. The first happened in Austin Township where Police found the driver of the ORV, a 41-year-old Stanwood woman, was traveling toward the roadway in her driveway when she lost control, entered the roadway and overturned.

Update: Fire put out at Barryton gas station

Update: Firefighters located the fire in a back room and have extinguished it at the Sunoco Station in Barryton. No injuries reported. its unclear how the fire started or how much damage it caused.

According to the Meceola Central Dispatch, a fire has broken out at the Sunoco gas station in Barryton. It's unclear how much damage has been caused. Firefighters are on the scene trying to put out the flames. So far no injuries have been reported. We'll have more on this story when it available.

Barryton & Morley Police Dept's receive tasers from Mecosta Co. Sheriff Dept.

The Barryton and Morley Police Department have received a generous equipment donation from the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department. Recently the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department updated their road patrol equipment by obtaining new tasers.  When this occurred, Sheriff Todd Purcell decided to utilize the M26-c tasers which were being replaced by the new tasers with other local police departments.  Chief John Bongard of the Barryton Police Department said that his department has been looking into obtaining tasers for quite some time due to how effective they have become.

Update:Mecosta Co. Sheriff Department release name of victim of fatal pedestrian crash

The Mecosta County Sheriff's Department have released the name of the victim who was hit last night in Barryton. Sheriff Todd Purcell says the incident happened around 6:54pm on 30th Ave.near the intersection of Arthur St. in Barryton. An Initial investigation revealed the southbound vehicle driven by a 28-year old Cadillac man struck 35-year old Judy Houston of Barryton who was laying on the road. The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is not suspected of the driver. We'll have more information when it becomes available.

Mecosta Co. Deputies investigating a home invasion in Barryton

Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies are investigating a home invasion at a residence in Barryton that occurred over the last three weeks. Deputies say the homeowner returned to the residence after three weeks and discovered her stove and dryer were missing among other items. Anyone with information regarding this incident please contact the Mecosta County Sheriffs Department.

Nemeth resigns as Barryton PD Chief

Barryton Police Chief Casey Nemeth will resign from his position with the department, effective May 1st. leaving its operation in the hands of the four officers employed in the village. Nemeth cited commitments to his job at the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department and a desire to spend more time with his family as reasons for leaving in a letter of resignation. No word yet on who will take over the Chief position at the department.

Barryton man arraigned after stabbing 16 year old girl on New Years Eve

An 18 year old Barryton man has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after a new year's eve party ended in a stabbing in Mecosta County. Michigan State Troopers say they responded to an underage house party in Fork Township and found a 16-year-old girl with a stab wound in her hand. Police located the suspect, 18-year old Kolton Christopher Hutchinson in Morley Tuesday. Hutchinson confessed to the stabbing and is now being held in Mecosta County Jail on $20,000 bond. He faces up to 4 years if convicted on the felony charge.

Second teen suspect arrested in connection to Barryton area break-ins

A second juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection to a string of breaking and entering's in the Barryton area. Mecosta County Sheriff Detective Casey Nemeth says on Friday they arrested a 15 year old Fork Township boy on multiple felonies. Nemeth says the arrest stems from the investigations into the 4 break ins at the Martiny Bait and Tackle back in March, the 3 break ins in September and October at the Riverside Sunoco in Barryton, and also the larceny and malicious destruction of property at the Pit Stop Grocery in Barryton.
