Big Rapids woman taken to hospital after accident in Big Rapids Twp.

A 33-year old Big Rapids woman was taken to a local hospital after a two car accident in Mecosta County Wednesday. Deputies say the accident happened on Northland Dr. south of 18 Mile Rd. in Big Rapids Twp. They say accident occurred when a north bound vehicle, driven by a 16-year old female from Big Rapids lost control of her vehicle, slid across the centerline and struck a south bound vehicle driven by a 33-year old female from Big Rapids. The 33 year old female was taken to the hospital for minor, non life threatening injuries.

Update: One person dead from trailer fire in Big Rapids Twp

UPDATE: Mecosta Co. Sheriff Todd Purcell has confirmed one person died in a trailer behind Harry's TV & Satellite in Big Rapids Township this morning. Purcell could not confirm the gender of the victim but says nothing appears to be suspicious. We'll have more on this story when more details come available.

16-year old Reed City girl taken to hospital after accident in Big Rapids Twp.

Two people were injured including a 16-year old girl after an accident on Perry Avenue in Big Rapids Township. Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies say the accident happened Friday where 16-year old Rachel Kafka of Reed City failed to yield the right of way when entering onto Perry Ave from the Walmart parking lot and collided with a vehicle driven by 39-year old Kayla Morris of Evart which was westbound on Perry Ave.  Both Kafka and her 43 y/o female passenger were transported to the Mecosta County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Big Rapids man involved in one-car accident in B.R. Twp.

A Big Rapids man was taken to the hospital after a one car accident in Big Rapids Township Tuesday evening. Mecosta Co. Sheriff Deputies say the accident occurred on New Millpond Rd near 15 Mile Rd. They say the driver, 63-year old Richard Taylor lost control on the icy roadway and went into the ditch hitting a tree. Taylor received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Mecosta County Medical Center for treatment.

Two taken to the hospital following rollover accident in Mecosta Co.

Two Indiana men were taken to the Mecosta County Medical Center and two others also from Indiana received minor injuries after a one car accident in Big Rapids Township Saturday. Sheriff Deputies say the accident happened on southbound US-131 near 17 mile Rd when the driver over corrected while changing lanes, losing control of the vehicle, slid sideways and overturned into a tree. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. Three passengers were wearing seat belts and received minor injuries. The driver and a passenger were transported to MCMC.

Police in Big Rapids looking for those responsible for stealing Civil War veteran grave markers

Deputies in Mecosta County are searching for those who responsible for stealing brass flag holders for the civil war veterans at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids Township. Police say were stolen sometime between August 5th and yesterday morning. The flag holders are the last of there kind and are no longer made. Anyone with information is urged to contact Mecosta County Sheriffs Office or Big Rapids Department of Pubic Safety.

Two taken to hospital after rollover accident in Big Rapids Twp

Two people were taken to the hospital this morning after a one vehicle rollover accident on US-131 near 15mile Rd in Big Rapids Township. Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies say 39-year old Steven Troupe of Baldwin was traveling northbound and swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and rolled his car.  Both Troupe and his 26-year old female passenger from Pentwater received non-life threatening injuries.  Troupe was arrested for OWI and was later transported to MCMC after complaining of his injuries.

Belding man taken to hospital after one vehicle accident in Big Rapids Twp.

A 22-year old Belding man was taken to the hospital fter a one vehicle accident in Big Rapids Township at the intersection of Perry St. and 215th Ave. Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies say The accident occurred when a west bound vehicle, driven by the Belding man, swerved to avoid  a east bound vehicle turning left (north) in front of him.  The west bound vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole.  The driver of the vehicle was transported by ems to the MCMC for treatment of non-life threatening injuries
