The former superintendent of Shelby Public Schools in West Michigan will stand trial this summer on embezzlement charges. A Clare County woman is behind bars and faces up to 15 years in prison for allegedly embezzling over $50,000 from her place of employment over a two year period. Crystle Swartz is charged with embezzlment from the law office of Dwight Carpenter and using a computer to commit the crime. She is being held at the Clare County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The former Superintendent of Shelby Public Schools in West Michigan has been charged with using school funds to buy himself a number of items for personal use. 54-year old Scott Lund of New Era was arraigned last week on charges of embezzlement by a public official over $50 and retaining a financial transaction device without consent. Lund allegedly rang up around $13,000 in embezzlement’s from November 14, 2009 to December 24, 2010 as Principal of Oceana High School. The second offense allegedly took place from July 1st to December 6th, 2011 when he was superintendent. He resigned from Shelby

Authorities in West Michigan say a pastor embezzled between $50,000 and $100,000 from his church. The Kent County Prosecutor's Office last week authorized a warrant charging the Rev. Arthur Pearson Sr. of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. Speaking at the church on Sunday, Pearson’s mother Zelda Ford denied the allegations. Police had been monitoring the church's probe of its funds.

A public official in west Michigan is facing embezzlement charges. The Allegan County Sheriff's Office began an investigation earlier this month into an allegation of misappropriation of funds from Watson Township. Police say a township official was arrested last week and will be charged with embezzlement by a public official over $50. It's believed the embezzlement occurred over the last eight months. Police are still trying to determine the exact extent of the embezzlement. The suspect's name has not been released pending arraignment on Thursday. (MRN)
