Police discover Meth lab dump sites around Osceola and Wexford Counties

Meth lab dump sites were discovered around Osceola and Wexford Counties over the weekend. State Police say the first in Osceola County's Hartwick Township was found when they received a call from a downstate man who found suspicious objects while attending to gravesites of family members. The object was identified by law enforcement as a one pot meth lab, it was removed from the cemetery. Then in Wexford County, officers were dispatched to three separate dump sites in two days at a cemetery in Haring Township, a wooded area in Cherry Grove Township and another cemetery the Boon area.

Lawsuit filed against Wexford Co., Sheriff's Dept and Sheriff over animal control practices

A lawsuit has been filed under the Whistleblower's Protection Act against Wexford County, the Sheriff's Department, and Sheriff Gary Finstrom. The person filing the suit is former animal control employee Kathy Dennis, who came forward with accusations of inhumane methods of euthanasia and other poor treatment of shelter animals. Since that time, other former employees have also come forward, alleging that various policies and procedures were not followed.

Woman in critical condition after pinning herself between side of McDonald's building and her car

A Manton woman is in critical condition after she pinned herself between her car and side of a McDonald's this morning in Wexford County. Deputies say the incident happened in Haring Township when the driver of the car, Jennifer Smith was in the drive-thru of the McDonald's when she dripped her credit card on the ground. Police say she opened the door to pick up the card and the car started to move forward and pinned Smith between her vehicle and the building. She was transported to the Munson Medical Center where she's listed in critical condition.

Teens escape uninjured as train collides with car

Two teenagers were uninjured after their car struck a train in Wexford County. Deputies say the incident happened Tuesday afternoon in Selma Township. They say the Cadillac area driver was traveling on S. 27 Rd and was unable to stop in time for the train which was traveling westbound. The car was severely damaged, the train had minor damage. Police say Icy road conditions are partly to blame as a cause of the accident.

Police release names and conditions of those involved in deadly two car accident

Two people were killed and two others injured, including a 2-year-old child, in a two vehicle crash in Wexford County. Sheriff's Deputies says the accident happened Monday night on North M-37 in Mesick. The driver of one of the vehicles, 56-year old Sandra Spencer of Mesick as well and her passenger 22-year old Susan Spencer, also of Mesick, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Zeeland man dies in Wexford Co. snowmobile accident

A downstate man was killed early Sunday morning in a snowmobile accident in Wexford County. Deputies say the incident happened on N. 13 ¼ Rd. near W. 20 Rd. in Antioch Township where 44-year old Thomas Trent Winn of Zeeland struck a tree. The crash remains under investigation.

Indiana man arraigned on armed robbery charges for Wexford Co. bank robbery

A Indiana man could face up to life in prison after he was arraigned in Wexford County Circuit Court on charges of armed robbery and bank robbery in connection with the September 20th robbery of the Citizens Bank in Haring Township. Police say 39-year old Edward Payson Wing of Elkhart, Indiana is accused of walking into Citizens Bank and demanding money from the teller before leaving the building, and fleeing on foot. Two injured in Wexford Co. accident

Two people were taken to the hospital in Wexford County after a two car accident Thursday. Deputies say the accident happened at the intersection of Boon and Plett Roads near Cadillac. Witnesses say the driver of the east-bound mini-van failed to stop for the red light at the intersection, and a northbound SUV crashed into it, causing the mini van to overturn. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Mercy Hospital. The two other passengers in SUV were not injured. Alcohol is not a factor in the accident.

Cadillac man dead after hitting tree during police chase

A Cadillac man is dead after kidnapping a woman and taking police on a chase that began at a Stanwood gas station in Mecosta County and ended in Newaygo County Tuesday afternoon. State Troopers say 43-year old Robert Lee Mongar kidnapped the woman after taking her to a cemetery near Cadillac. They say Monger physically and sexually assaulted her as well. Police say he bound the woman's feet and hands then loaded her into the back of her car until she was able to escape at a gas station near Stanwood in Mecosta County.

Drunk driver knocks out power for 1,600 people in Cadillac

It wasn't the weather but an alleged drunk driver who knocked out electricity for an estimated 1,600 Consumers Energy customers this morning in Cadillac. Police say the accident happened around 1am this morning where they say the driver was traveling on N.East Street and crashed into a utility pole. Another driver witnessed the incident and described the car to authorities. Police caught up to the driver a short time later and arrested the suspect on drunk driving charges as well as driving away from the scene of an accident. A Consumers Energy Spokesperson say power was restored around 5am.
