Son & daughter save father from near drowning in Wexford Co.

A Cadillac man is in fair condition after nearly drowning on Lake Mitchell in Wexford County last night. State Police say 46-year old Michael Fewless went out for a swim around 6-pm last night when he had a hard time keeping his head above water, that's when he called for help. Police say his 22-year old daughter and 12-year old son came to his rescue and pulled their father into a boat they had and drove him to shore.

Cadillac man takes Police on 22 mile chase through two counties

A Cadillac man is behind bars awaiting arraignment after he took police on a high speed chase in Wexofrd Co. that lasted 22 miles and topped speeds of 120 miles per hour. State Police say it started after an officer tried to stop a motorcycle on northbound U.S. 131 for traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.

58-year old man suffers serious injuries after motorcycle accident in Wexford Co.

A 58-year old man up in Wexford County suffered serious injuries after a motorcycle accident last night. State Police say the Farwell man was traveling eastbound on M-115 in Springville Township when he struck a curb of a roundabout causing him to lose control and fall off the bike. He's currently listed in critical condition. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Suspected "One Pot" meth lab found in Wexford County

A suspected methamphetamine dump site was discovered near a roadway in Haring Township over the weekend. The dump site was found Saturday evening after a man walking his dog found the suspicious objects. Detectives from Traverse Narcotics Team were contacted and cleaned up the suspected “one pot” lab. The materials were transported to a safe location. The Traverse Narcotics Team asks that anyone with any information pertaining to illegal drug activity, call the drug tip line at 231-338-0868.

Investigators reopen case of Wexford Co.man's death

An investigation has been reopened in the death of a Cadillac man last summer. The Wexford County Medical Examiner initially ruled that 30-year old James Strobel committed suicide but has now changed the likely cause of death to "undetermined." Strobel was reported missing in July of 2013. Officials say his decomposed body was found in September by a woman and her young nephew who were taking a walk in the woods, The reopening of the investigation came after a family member told authorities more information, leading them to question the original theories. Deputies arrest drunk man firing shotgun in Wexford County

A Wexford County man is behind bars after deputies responded to a "shots fired" call this morning at a home in Haring Township. Police say when they arrived to the scene they made contact with a 37-year old man who was firing a shotgun while intoxicated. Deputies arrested the man and is currently lodged at the Wexford County Jail. Police say the male subject also had a warrant for his arrest from a neighboring county on an unrelated charge.

Woman takes police on a high speed three county car chase

Police have a woman in custody they say took them on a three county car chase that ended in Osceola County. The chase started in Kalkaska County when a deputy tried to pull over 34-year old Sara Marie Williams of Traverse City when she fled. Police say during the chase speeds topped out at over 100 miles per hour. Police say once Williams entered Osceola County, stop sticks were used and that immobilized her car allowing deputies to take her into custody.

Police name downstate man who died in snowmobile accident in Wexford Co.

Police in Wexford County have released identified a man who died in a snowmobile accident over the weekend. 31-year old Jeffery Wright of Vicksburg died Saturday morning after losing control of his snowmobile and crashing on a trail in Clam Lake Township. Police say Wright was reportedly driving a snowmobile on the Rails for Trails snowmobile trails near East 50 Road and South 39 Road when he lost control and left the trail way, drove down the embankment striking trees.  Deputies believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Manton man seriously injured after homemade cannon explodes

A norther Michigan man was hospitalized yesterday (Sunday) after a homemade cannon exploded. The Wexford County Sheriff’s Office said a 48-year-old man was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, after he was seriously injured when a homemade cannon exploded while he was loading it. Deputies say the incident happened about 2:30 Sunday afternoon, the incident was still under investigation.

Two charged for bank robberies in Wexford & Clare Co.

A Couple has been charged with a string of bank robberies last week in Clare and Wexford Counties. Police say 57-year old Clinton Cole of Harrison and 56-year old Ruth Loomis of Cadillac were arraigned Monday in Clare County’s District Court. Cole was charged with armed robbery, carrying a firearm while committing a felony, possession of a firearm as a felon and fourth-offense habitual offender. Loomis was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aiding and abetting and offense habitual offender.
