U.S. Senator Carl Levin of Michigan got more than he bargained for after making a stop in Big Rapids this morning for a meet and greet being held by the Mecosta County Democratic Party at Peppers Café. Levin discussed the current state of the country, but during the question and answer session, the Senior U.S. Senator was interrupted by an attendee in the crowd who rushed up and threw a pie in his face. After the incident the Michigan Senator filed a report with the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety. The female pie thrower was placed under arrest but has yet to be identified. BRDPS Director Frank West says the female suspect is being held at the Mecosta County Jail on charges of assault and battery. An arraignment is scheduled for this afternoon.
