Possible state government shutdown if budget not finalized by end of month

With only 22 days left until the end of the budget year, speculation that the Michigan budget is 90-95% done is just that, speculation. State Representative Darwin Booher of the 102nd District says that the budget is 99% done, but has been that way since June with only a few line items standing in the way of it being completely finalized. Booher also said that today’s session was just “canceled without any reason given” and they “are sitting in the same spot they were three-to-four weeks ago in that all of these budgets are sitting in conference waiting for action.” Legislators are due back on September 8th and if a budget can’t be resolved by October 1st it could lead to a government shutdown.
