Darwin Laverne Lattimore, 81 of Rodney, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 with family by his side.


Darwin was born on March 26, 1935 in Barryton to R.J. and Neva (Branson) Lattimore.


He graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural School in 1954 and went to work at Buick in Flint.  Darwin married Carol Jayne Toogood on June 11, 1955.  Later he worked at MichCon, Wolverine, Shaw’s Pipeline and was a Dairy Farmer for 18 years.  In 1973 he established Lattimore’s Mobile Home Sales.  He was known as the king of mobile homes in Mecosta County.  His father R.J. was a great supporter through all of his life endeavors.  He loved his work and all the people he met around the State of Michigan.  Darwin believed in treating everyone fairly.  Darwin was a huge supporter of the Chippewa Lake Community Church (formerly Chippewa Lake Methodist Church.)  He purchased church yard sticks and would go door to door inviting everyone to church.


Darwin is survived by his wife Carol of 61 years, three sons, Dennis (Kathy), Dean (Cindy), Andy (Katey), grandchildren, Katie Lattimore, Seth (Tiffany) Lattimore, Natalie (Joe) Aguirre, Darla (Calvin) Zimmerman, A.J. (Melissa) Lattimore, Amber (fiancé Gavin Erbes) Lattimore, and Ty Lattimore; great-grandsons, Hudson and Madox Zimmerman, and 2 great-grandchildren on the way; sister Marlene (Bruce) Cummings; sister-in-law Margie (Dennis) Randolph; nieces and nephews, Tammy and Darin (Lisa) Cummings, Jeff (Sharon) Toogood, Judy (Mike) Reynolds, Karen Toogood, Dale Eric Toogood, Kim (Brad) Toogood Ross, Carl, Kyle (Tammy), Brian (Karla) Randolph, and many great nieces, great nephews and cousins. 

 

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents R.J. & Neva Lattimore, in-laws Carl & Selma Toogood, grandson Evan Lattimore, brother-in-law Dale Toogood, nephew Dave Toogood and sister-in-law Nancy Toogood Sharp.


Darwin loved his family, friends, church and helping others.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday August 14, 2016 and one hour prior to services on Monday, at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.  Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the Rev. Roger Bennett officiating.  Burial will follow at the Martiny Township Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be made in Darwin’s name to the Chippewa Lake Community Church or Heartland Hospice of Fremont.
