John Gerald Nee, loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at home in Canadian Lakes, MI at the age of 77. A memorial mass will be held in his honor September 23, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Tom Boufford as Celebrant.
John was born March 28, 1939, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of John and Doris (Hansberry) Nee. John graduated from Beloit Catholic High School, and subsequently earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He completed his Doctorate of Education from the University of Minnesota in 1973.
On February 4, 1967, John married his beloved wife, Kathleen Mary Walsh, and over the next few years, they added to their family with the birth of their two daughters. Throughout his life, John had an unwavering sense of responsibility for his family and in 1975, John and Kathy moved their family to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where John began work as a Professor within the Department of Industrial Engineering Technology at Central Michigan University. John enjoyed a long and respected career, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2008. His work and his students were both very important and he took great pride in the successes of his students upon their graduation and stayed in touch with many of them throughout the years.
In 2003, John and Kathy moved to Canadian Lakes, where they enjoyed the beauty of the woods and water and the camaraderie of many new friends.
Along with a love for his work, John enjoyed many other hobbies, including riding and refurbishing motorcycles. Friends, neighbors, and students could often find him in his workshop or garage working on making what was old, new again. His final and much loved acquisition was a 1983 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency. He enjoyed sharing the Oldsmobile at car shows and touring around West Michigan with his wife and friends as part of the Canadian Lakes Car Club.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy; children Christine (Richard) Bradley, Lynn (Rikk Kolacz) Nee; grandson Nicholas Kolacz; brother Tom (Judy) Nee; many loved nieces and nephews; and good friend Dennis Parent. He was preceded in death by his parents.
