Ferris State University students gave a presentation to the Big Rapids City Commission to make the city more bike and pedestrian friendly. The students from professor Paul Long’s Small Town Studio class presented ideas to commission members and the public that focuses on a multi-use path surrounding Big Rapids. The students proposed ideas that included dedicated bike paths, roundabout intersections as well as a second foot-bridge across the Muskegon River.

In local election news Wheatland Township voters said “yes” to renew a fire protection millage of 2 mills to provide funds for firefighting equipment and for all other operating expenditures for provision of fire protection services. But township did however say “no” to an additional road repair millage of one mill for years 2012 through 2022 to maintain township roads.
