Montcalm Co. man in jail after threatening to kill family members with knife

A man is in jail facing charges after threatening to kill family members at a home in Montcalm County Thursday. Deputies say the incident happened at a home in Bushnell Township where the suspect was armed with a knife and threatened to kill his wife and mother in-law. When police arrived to the scene they found the suspect in the living room yelling at other residents. The suspect was ordered to surrender, which he complied immediately. The suspect was arrested for Felonious Assault and Domestic Assault and lodged at Montcalm County Jail.

Man extradited back to Big Rapids to face CSC charges

A 40-year old man from Spokane, Washington man has been brought back to Mecosta County accused of more than a handful of felony criminal sexual conduct charges. Paul Clinton Mahaffey Jr. of Spokane Washington was arraigned this week, charged with three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under the age of 13; three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct for having a relationship with a minor; and one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under the age of 13. Mahaffey was previously convicted in 1991 of second degree CSC.

Kullman pleads guilty to first degree CSC charges in Osceola Co.

The former Evart High School Principal accused of having sex with a 14-year old student has plead guilty to first degree criminal sexual conduct charges in Oceola County .Alan Kullman could face life in prison. A sentencing date has not been set. Kullman took a leave of absence May 29th then was arrested a week later on sexual assault charges.

Mount Pleasant man faces charges of assaulting a corrections officer

A 20.-year old Mount Pleasant man currently in jail on charges of assaulting a 4-year old boy who went missing in late June, now faces new charges of assaulting a corrections officer. Police say the incident happened at the Bay County Jail August 24th. They say Anthony Bennett was involved in a dispute with another prisoner that resulted in him swinging at an officer, knocking him down and punching him three times in the face and neck. He faces two counts of assaulting a prison employee and assaulting, resisting or obstructing police.

Big Rapids man charged in stabbing case

A 31-year old Big Rapids man faces up to four years in prison on charges connected to a stabbing at a Big Rapids apartment complex last month. Deandre Rashawn Anderson was arraigned in Mecosta County District Court on one felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Big Rapids DPS officers say they were called on August. 23 to Appleridge Apartments where they say during a verbal altercation in the apartment’s parking lot, a 21-year-old man was stabbed, leaving a wound that went completely through his arm. Anderson waived his right to a preliminary exam and his case heads to circuit court.

Deputies investigating carjacking in Wexford Co.

Deputies are investigating a carjacking that occured early this morning in Wexford County. Police say around 2am in Selma Township a woman picked up two male hitchhikers near Plett and 13th street where soon after the two men wanted money from the victim. Deputies say when she refused they ransacked her purse to no avail. The woman then slowed her vehicle down and one of the suspects leaned over and opened her door and pushed her out of the moving vehicle. Police say the car was later recovered, having been crashed near Camp Torenta.

Three men arrested for a string of home invasions in Isabella Co.

Three man are behind bars in Isabella County on charges connected to a string of home invasions that began in July. Sheriff Deputies arrested 24-year old Patrick Mulholland, 23-year old Ryan Hones both of Mount Pleasant and 21-year old Julius Williams of Jackson for the thefts. They say most of the victims reported their TV, XBOX, Playstation systems and games being stolen. Police expect more arrests to come out of the break-ins, with hopes of finding even more of the stolen items.

Police arrest suspects involved in armed home invasion in Newaygo Co.

Two people are in jail, accused of armed home invasion. State Police say the robbery happened last week at a home on West 1 Mile Road in Newaygo County's Denver Township. Kristin Lattin, and two others were wearing masks when they broke into a home, attacked the people inside and ran off with cash and other property. Lattin is charged with armed robbery and first-degree home invasion. The identity of the second suspect is being withheld pending arraignment. The case is still under investigation and more arrests are expected.

Pair arrested for car break-ins around Baldwin

After a string of nearly 30 cars being broken into near Baldwin over the past month and a half Lake County Sheriff Deputies think they finally have the suspects responsible. Deputies arrested a downstate man and a juvenile from Detroit. Police say the pair stole electronics, cash and other things from the vehicles. They are expected to be charged with multiple felonies. The downstate man is lodged at the lake county jail while the youth is being taken back to his home in Detroit.

Update: Mecosta Co. woman arrested for threatening neighbor

Just a few days after police in Mecosta County arrested a Sheridan township man for threatening his neighbor with a gun and felonious assault. Daniel Melson's girlfriend Evelyn Jones has now been arrested on charges of threatening to kill her neighbor as well. Deputies say the pair threatened to kill their neighbor and her family in Sheridan Township in Mecosta County last Thursday. Police say Melson physically assaulted the neighbor and then the couple threatened to kill her in hopes of keeping her quiet. The victim only sustained minor injuries.
