
The American Association of Retired Persons is offering free tax preparation services for residents in Mecosta County who are low- to moderate-income taxpayers and 50 years and older from now until April 13th.
Residents can schedule tax preparation appointments by calling the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at (231) 796-4848 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Weekdays.
Tax Preparation will be held at the following locations:

from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through April 13 at the Mecosta County Services Building.

from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Monday through April 10 at Morton Township Hall
-
from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday through April 7 at Morton Township Library
-
from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday through April 12 at Wheatland Township Library
Customers are asked to bring the following documentation to appointments:

a copy of last year’s income tax returns
-
photo ID for taxpayer and spouse (a federal requirement)
-
Social Security cards for taxpayer and all dependents (photocopies are acceptable)
-
W-2 forms from each employer
-
all 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, etc.) showing interest and/or dividends as well as documentation showing the original purchase price of any assets sold
-
1099-misc showing any miscellaneous income
-
the SSA-1099 if Social Security benefits are received
-
any 1099R if a pension or annuity is received
-
all forms indicating any federal or state income tax paid
-
unemployment compensation statements, if applicable
-
child care provider information, including name, employer ID, Social Security number; and
-
all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions.
