2026 Local Primary Election Results

The primary election is now in the books. As we look at our five local counties, here are some notable results from each county election.

LAKE COUNTY

All three township millage renewals passed (Elk TWP Fire & EMS, Peacock TWP Fire Protection, and Peacock TWP Operations).
Rich Vance recieved majority of county votes (31%) among five republicans running in the 101st District U.S. Representative race.
Tom Evans claims 78% of republican votes for Lake County Prosecuting Attorney.
Rick Haslock was selected (65%) as the republican representative for Lake County Road Commissioner.
Chris Grier was picked as democratic vote for Yates Township Supervisor.

ISABELLA COUNTY

County senior citizens service millage proposal passes at 77%.
All three township millage renewals passed (Deer TWP Fire Protection, Sherman TWP Library, and Wise Township Mosquito Abatement).
Farwell Area Schools passes millage renewal proposal (61%).
Ben Ambrose edged Jamie Hill in Isabella County by 104 votes for the Congressional 2nd District spot.
Hannah Demerath wins Mt. Pleasant city commisisoner seat race (55%) against Michael Kostrzewa.

MECOSTA COUNTY

Morley Stanwood (56%) and Chippewa Hills schools (52%) pass millage proposals.
Wheatland Township passes road repair millage renewal with 70% of votes.
Sheridan Township votes in special assessment proposal in 135 to 130 count.
Haley Stevens (51%) recieved more Mecosta County votes than Abdul El-Sayed (44%) for Senate Democratic seat.
John James collects majority of Mecosta County republican governor votes (46%) over Perry Johnson (37%).

NEWAYGO COUNTY

White Cloud Public Schools (54%), Grant Public Schools (59%) pass operating millage proposals.
Tri County Area Public Schools' operating millage fails to pass at 46%.
All six Lilley Township and all three Norwich Township millage renewals pass.
Merill Township trustee race between Charles Dryer and Ashley Miles ends in 100-100 draw.
Ensley Township road millage voted down at 46%.
