MCWC to deliver over 345K petition signatures on Nestle's use of Michigan water

Members of the group Michigan Citizens for Water Conversation are heading to Lansing to deliver over 345,000 petition signatures calling on the Department of Environmental Quality to deny Nestlé’s request to increase pumping capacity from its well near Evart.

The group plans to meet outside the DEQ offices on Tuesday.

The public comment period on the proposal has been extended until March 3rd and over 21,000 residents have submitted comments so far.

They are also calling for public hearings statewide to address what it calls a disconnect between Nestlé takings and water shutoffs in Detroit and lead contamination in Flint, as well as flaws in state law related to water resources.
