Kevin McNeilly, 66

Kevin McNeilly, 66, of Sears, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 21, 1959, in Lakeview, the son of Eldon and Kay (Jones) McNeilly.

Kevin grew up on a dairy farm, where early mornings, chores, and hard work were instilled in him from a young age. His love and passion for farming continued throughout his life. He farmed for many years and was known by all who knew him as one of the hardest workers around.

Kevin served his community throughout his life. He was an Eagle Scout in his younger years and later on was a part of the Barryton Community Fire Department. Kevin served the department for sixteen years, holding a position as a lieutenant some of that time. As he grew older Kevin sponsored several charity and community events through donations.

Beyond his time spent dairy and pig farming, he enjoyed riding horses, snowmobiling, fishing, sitting around a fire sharing stories and hunting. He was most excited about his hunting adventures in Africa. While these passions brought him great joy, his proudest moments were spent with his family, especially being known as “Papa” to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Jeremiah (Rebecca Szpiech) McNeilly, Brian McNeilly, and Justin McNeilly; grandchildren, Ashlynn, Mayson, Kendall, Livia, and Crosley; significant other, Ellen McCauley; siblings, Debbie (Jim) Campbell, Melody (Dale) Kesler, Rose (Mike) Simon, Jeff (Patti) McNeilly, Lorrie McNeilly, and Trudy (Terry) Vogel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Elyse; and great-niece, Shae.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 12:00 noon at The Church of God in Barryton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

He will be laid to rest at East Fork Cemetery in Barryton.

In memory of Kevin—a farmer at heart and a simple man—the family requests that those attending come dressed as Kevin would have wanted: casual and comfortable.

Richard Gibbons, 77

Richard Gibbons, 77, of Reed City, Michigan, passed away after a life filled with service, adventure, friendship, and love.

Born on September 10, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Richard was the son of Richard and Florence Gibbons. As a young man, he developed a love for golf while working as a caddy, a job he remembered fondly throughout his life. He attended Lawrence Technological University, where he earned a degree in Mathematics, served as president of his class, and played on the university golf team.

Following graduation, Richard answered his country’s call to service. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4). During his service he worked as a Military Policeman and K-9 handler alongside his dog, Fido. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life, and in later years he was honored by the Reed City community for his service as a Vietnam veteran.

After returning home, Richard began the next chapter of his life. In 1980, he broke ground on and personally designed and built the home in Harrison Township where he would spend the next several decades of his life. There he built a career with the Internal Revenue Service, raised his daughter, and created a home that became a gathering place for family and friends. His years of service earned recognition from the United States Department of the Treasury upon his retirement.

Richard’s greatest joy was his daughter, Elizabeth. Together they traveled, explored, and shared countless adventures. Throughout his life he was fortunate to share meaningful chapters with the women he loved, including Christine, with whom he welcomed Elizabeth, and later Robin, whom he loved deeply and cared for devotedly during her illness until her passing.

To know Richard was to know a man in constant motion. He loved golf, bowling, fishing, boating, travel, and the outdoors. An avid scuba diver with more than 250 dives to his name, he explored waters across the world, including the Galápagos Islands and the Great Blue Hole. He spent many summers aboard his beloved boat, Rum Runner, and countless days fishing with friends on Saginaw Bay, Lake St. Clair, and beyond.

Not long after retirement, Richard moved to Reed City and quickly became part of the community he would come to love. He joined the VFW, the Moose Lodge, and numerous local organizations, making friends wherever he went. At the Reed City VFW, he served as Quartermaster for eighteen years, dedicating countless hours to supporting fellow veterans and helping strengthen the community around him.

Richard believed that public service was noble and necessary. He believed in giving back to the community and country in which one lived. Retirement never slowed him down. He volunteered his time generously, delivered mail, helped neighbors whenever needed, and remained actively involved in the lives of those around him.

Friends knew they were always welcome at Richard’s home. There was usually a cold beer waiting, a story ready to be told, and laughter not far behind. He was generous with his time, loyal to his friends, and always willing to lend a hand. He was rarely seen leaving the house without first making sure his hair was brushed and in place.

In his later years, Richard found great peace sitting in his sunroom overlooking the Hersey River, surrounded by family, friends, and his beloved cats. There he enjoyed the simple things in life: good company, a beautiful view, and the satisfaction of a life well lived.

Richard taught those around him to love the outdoors, embrace adventure, value friendship, and serve others with integrity. He showed by example that a meaningful life is built through kindness, generosity, and the relationships we create along the way.

Richard is survived by his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Jean Gibbons; granddaughter, Riley Jean Frederick; and grandson, Kody Hunter Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Florence Gibbons, and by his wife, Robin.

He will be remembered as a devoted father, proud veteran, public servant, loyal friend, generous neighbor, and a man who never stopped moving forward. His stories will continue to be shared wherever friends gather, lines are cast into the water, cards are dealt, or a cold beer is raised in good company.

A man in constant motion, but never too busy to share his love of life with those around him.

Melissa Jean Stein, 61

Melissa Jean Stein passed away, at home in Sears, MI, unexpectedly from known health complications, on Thursday, June 11, 2026. Melissa was 61.

Melissa was born on August 3, 1964 in Reed City, Michigan to Clinton and Marcella (Rock) Stein and attended Evart Schools. She was an assembler at Ventra where she has worked for over 30 years.

Melissa was strong-willed and stubborn—sometimes frustratingly so—but she was authentic and unapologetically true to herself. She spoke sarcasm fluently and never hesitated to stand up for herself or for those she cared about when she felt it was needed. Although her health had declined over the last year, Melissa chose not to dwell on the negatives or the things she could not change. Instead, she preferred to bring laughter and smiles to those around her rather than focus on sadness. Her strength, humor, and resilience will be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Melissa is survived by her longtime boyfriend, Bruce Flinn; children, Charlla (Brandon) Lamond of Ishpeming, Jason (Courtney) of Greenville and Sam of LeRoy; three sisters, Barb (Joseph Ernest) Stein-Gaerrero, Corinna (Marvin) Foster, and Kari Stanton; maternal aunt, Olivia Stitt; five grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Melissa was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held from 3pm to 5pm on Friday, June 19th at the Stein Farm, 9014 70th Avenue, Evart. Condolences and memories can be shared with Melissa’s family, on her page, online at coreyfuneralhome.com.

Gerald Denslow, 80

Not every barn is just a barn and not every farmer is just a farmer. If you’ve ever been on the back roads in Sylvan Township, Osceola County, MI you have most likely seen the big red barn with DENSLOW on the roof. It’s a bit iconic and it is the safe haven for the livestock on that farm. The farmer who lived there, was born and raised there. His family tilled, planted and harvested the fields. He learned how to be a farmer. He raised dairy and beef cattle and was blessed to be able to take his last breath in the house of his birth. Gerald A. Denslow passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 with the satisfaction of knowing how much 5 generations have loved and will continue to love the farm and the heritage of the Denslow Barn. Mr. Denslow was 80.

Gerald was born on November 21, 1945 to Elgin and Dorothy (Blake) Denslow. He graduated from Evart High School in 1964 and shortly after entered the United States Army. In 1967 Gerald was honorably discharged in St. Louis, MO and made his way home.

With Gerald everything had its place. He was a well structured man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his ATV and tractor pulls. Throughout his tenure the pulls have significantly changed from going from the field to the track. He passed his knowledge and interest of pulling onto his nephew and they enjoyed doing it together.

Gerald is survived by: his brother, Gaylord (Donna) Denslow; his sister, Shirley Woodring; brother-in-law, Walter Freese and many many nieces, nephews & great and great great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. You can’t be a farmer without liking animals. He had special animal companions cows, a bird, dogs and later in life his house cats.

Gerald was preceded in death by: his sister, Joyce Freese; four nephews, and his parents.

It is with heartfelt gratitude that we say thank you to the Council on Aging and Hospice of Michigan for their assistance in making it possible for Gerald to spend his last days at home. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Marion Fair.

A celebration of life is being planned for August 23, 2026 at 1:00 when he will be laid to rest at Sylvan Township Cemetery. There will be a lunch following at the farm. Cremation has taken place through the Corey Funeral Home in Evart. Condolences can be left online at www.coreyfuneralhome.com

Sarah was funny, loving, generous, and always willing to help a family member in need and always had open arms for all whom entered her home.

Hunting season was a special time for Sarah. Bonnie Jean Selesky, 89

Bonnie Jean Selesky, age 89 of Lakeview, Michigan, passed peacefully into the arms of her lord on Thursday, June 11, 2026.  Bonnie was a lifelong resident of the Lakeview area.

She was born on November 18, 1936 to Orville and Rita (Kortes) Behrenwald.  She joined older brother Larry and later was joined by younger sister Kay.  Bonnie had a wonderful childhood growing up on the farm with her siblings.  She was a quiet child and developed a strong work ethic and a love of nature and animals that lasted throughout her lifetime.  She became known throughout the community as the person to take any orphaned animal to when they needed care.

In addition to the typical farm animals, she raised multiple deer, raccoons, squirrels, a mink and even a family of orphaned skunks (who grew up to think they were cats!)  Her love of cats earned her the nickname of “Cat Rancher” to those who knew and loved her.  She worked hard on the farm driving tractor, milking, planting, harvesting and bringing in the hay on those hot, sticky summer days.

In school Bonnie was involved with the Future Homemakers of America, was a cheerleader for the Lakeview High School and worked after school as a secretary for lawyer Ruth Kelsey and as a clerk at the Michigan Pickle Company.  It was at school that she met the love of her life, Ronald Selesky.  She and Ron were married on April 14, 1957 and ten months later welcomed their first son, Mason Gene Selesky.  Two years later they welcomed their second son, Jordon Jay Selesky to the family.

Bonnie continued to work on the farm and raising her family until both boys were in school.  She entered the banking business and worked for the Bank of Lakeview and Firstbank (now known as Mercantile Bank) for many years until she retired.  She was a familiar face at the bank and was well known for her bright smile, kind nature and knowledge of the banking business.  Bonnie was always the professional businesswoman and is also remembered for those smart suits and stiletto pumps!

Bonnie loved to read and always joked about how she found the boys’ names in novels she read.  She loved to travel, having taken memorable trips to Alaska with her dad and sister, and out west to visit friends.  Later in retirement she and Ron loved to just get in the car and go and see where they ended up!   She continued helping on the farm, driving the big tractors and helping out wherever needed.  She was well known for her scalloped potatoes, goulash and custard pies, but probably best known (at least by her family) as being the absolute best grandma and great-grandma any child could ask for.  Her love for her children, their children and her great-grandchildren was immeasurable.

Bonnie’s last few years were spent at the Lakeview Terrace, under the loving care of the wonderful staff there.  The family would like to send a special thank-you to these amazing individuals.  You are blessed with a special gift you give to those under your care; please know how much your tender care and loving thoughts have been appreciated.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband Ron, parents Orville and Rita (Kortes) Behrenwald, parents-in-law Theron and Mabel (Hansen) Selesky, sister-in-law Kay (Kos) Behrenwald, brother-in-law Arvin Selesky, nephew Eric Rasmussen and niece Dana Selesky.

She is survived by her sons, Mason and Tamara (Stevenson) Selesky of Trufant, Jordon and Kim (Sias) Selesky of Barryton, grandchildren Chanele (Craig) Lueder of Lakeview, Heather (Scott) Mackie of Commerce Township, Tyler Selesky of Lakeview, Ashley (Kevin) Riley of Rockford, Alyssa (Tory) Niewiadomski of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Shana (Adam) Strantz of Big Rapids, great-grandchildren Macie and Raegan Lueder, Ian Mackie, Briella and Grayden Riley, Ava and Nolan Niewiadomski, Harper, Preston and Palmer Strantz, brother Larry Behrenwald of Clarksville, sister Kay (Bernard) Rasmussen of Stanton, sister-in-law Joan Selesky of Lakeviewand many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Bonnie will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at McKenna’s Village Restaurant in Lakeview from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Friends and family may drop in anytime to visit with the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Bonnie’s memory be made to the Montcalm County Animal Shelter.

Fredrick Ralph Habel, 70

It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Fredrick Ralph (Rick) Habel on 7th of June 2026. He passed peacefully with his wife Kathy at his side, due to injuries sustained in a tree cutting accident. Rick had just reached his 70th Birthday. Rick now sleeps peacefully until the return of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Rick was born May 27th, 1956 in Elkhart, IN, the son of Donald and Flossie Habel. The family moved to Morley, MI in 1958. Rick graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1974, where he played football for all 4 High School years. After which he was able to enter into an apprenticeship for the Electrical Trade. Rick was able to reach the status of Master Electrician. Rick worked at Federal Mogul in Greenville, MI for 30 years and finished his career with Amway in Ada, MI before retiring.

Above and beyond his work he loved working with his hands, woodworking, carpentry, fabricating (he rebuilt a Model A Ford pickup) and doing mechanical work. His hobbies were many, car shows, motorcycle riding (Harley), snowmobiling, side by sides, camping, golf and just enjoying life. He and Kathy just started the process of building their dream home. Patricia Eisler, 75

Patricia J. Eisler (nee Johnson), age 75, was peacefully called home by our Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Patsy was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and adopted by Norris and Irene Johnson, who raised her in South Haven, Michigan. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in reading disabilities from Southern Connecticut State College and an Education Specialist degree from Troy State University in Alabama. At the University of Michigan, she met and married David L. Eisler. They lived in Troy, Alabama, Portales, New Mexico, and Ogden, Utah before moving to Big Rapids, where they lived for 23 years.

Patsy was the beloved wife of David L. Eisler for 53 years and the devoted mother of Dr. Heather L. Eisler and her husband Nathaniel, and Dr. Lindsay S. Eisler. She was the loving grandmother of David and Jacob Eisler-Campbell. Welcoming Patsy into Heaven are her parents, Norris and Irene Johnson, and her son, Kevin.

Patsy was a lifelong educator, teaching sixth-grade and middle school students in the Pike County, Alabama, Portales, New Mexico, and the Ogden, Utah Schools. She was known for capturing the attention of students in science and encouraging them to succeed in regional and statewide science fairs. Known as the "Creature Teacher," she kept all manner of animals, birds, fish, and insects in her classroom, using these to teach students about caring, responsibility, and life.

As an educator, Patsy received numerous awards and recognitions. In Alabama, she was recognized for her success in securing grant support for student projects. In New Mexico, her project, "Science by Satellite – Creating Excitement in the Elementary Classroom," was selected by the Intel Corporation as its Intel Innovations in Teaching Award winner. This $65,000 award provided computers and networking for Lindsey Middle School, along with replicating her program in other classrooms there.

As a part of the New Mexico World Class Teachers Project, Patsy earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards as an early-adolescent generalist and was selected for Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In moving to Utah, she became the only nationally board-certified teacher in the state. Patsy was selected as a torchbearer for the 2002 Paralympic Games, which followed the Winter Olympics in Utah. For this, students from the sixth-grade classes at Mount Ogden Middle School proudly accompanied her through the streets of Salt Lake City.

In Big Rapids, Patsy was the first lady of Ferris State University for 19 years, serving the longest after founder Woodbridge Ferris' spouse, Helen Gillespie Ferris. At Ferris State University, Patsy attended thousands of events supporting the University, its first comprehensive campaign, "Now and Always," its sporting competitions, and students. Patsy created the First Lady's Attic, which provides "experienced" professional clothing without charge to Ferris State University students so they can look their best for internships, presentations, and job interviews. In her final year at Ferris, Patsy served as grand marshal of the University's Homecoming.

Patsy was a lifelong supporter of the Girl Scouts, leading Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadet troops. She served as a board member for the Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Council and was awarded lifetime membership in the Girl Scouts of America. Patsy's desire to help others led her to join the Mecosta County Community Foundation, where she served on the Youth Advisory Committee and the Grant Activity Committee.

An active volunteer, Patsy worked with Hospice for many years, providing companionship, caregiver relief, and 11th-hour vigil support. In the public schools, she provided tutoring and special assistance to elementary students in Big Rapids. A lifelong Methodist, Patsy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids and served on the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.

As a foster child and adopted child, Patsy understood the critical importance of education for students who age out of the foster youth system. At Ferris, she established and endowed the Ferris Youth Initiative Johnson Scholars, which supports young people who are alumni of foster care. In this, she memorialized her adoptive parents, Norris and Irene Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, 13985 Northland Drive, Big Rapids, Michigan, and to her funeral service, 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at the First United Methodist Church, 304 Elm Street, Big Rapids, Michigan. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Johnson Scholar Endowment at Ferris State University through the Ferris Foundation or to Corewell Health Hospice through the Corewell Health Foundation West Michigan.

Janet Marie Eichenberg, 69

Janet Marie Eichenberg, 69, of Reed City, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 11, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Spring Lake, Michigan to the late William and Carol (Skoog) Baker on March 11, 1957. She graduated from Reed City High School in 1974 where she met the love of her life, Mark. They married on August 14, 1976, and were together over 45 years prior to his passing in 2022.

Everything important to Janet revolved around family. She was a loving mom, while also proudly holding the titles of grandma, aunt, sister, friend and confidant. She was blessed to be able to stay home and raise her children, while also giving her love to many other children who came through her doors. Janet was always surrounded by friends and they and their children were considered family to her.

Her greatest passions in life were taking care of children, designing homes, doing projects around the house with Mark, singing and her faith in God. Janet was always creating new projects for her and Mark to do in not only their home, but often in the homes of their family and friends (he always said she was the brains and he was the brawn). She was proud of the home she and Mark created. Family and friends were always welcome at their home for a chat, a glass of wine, or in the summer, a swim in the pool.

She was a grandma to five beautiful granddaughters who have the best memories of making her famous sugar cookies, playing games like Sorry and Scrabble, shopping, Easter egg hunts, over the top Christmases, and the annual Mother’s Day swim. She was a devoted mother to her children and welcomed their spouses to the family with open arms.

Janet is survived by her loving children Jill Bush (Jason), Kim Nielsen (Joe), and Greg Eichenberg (Kelsie), along with her five granddaughters (Anna, Addison, Liv, Mia, and Vivienne) who were the lights of her life.  She was preceded in passing by her daughter Nicole, her husband Mark, her sister Karen, and her parents William and Carol. Luke Allen Bischer, 23

Why cry for a soul set free? Our God, may he know rest and rest in you… this brings us peace. Fly high Luke and soar above us, protect us and continue to teach us how to understand and help each other. We have been forever blessed to have had you in our lives.

You never know how much you will truly miss someone until they pass away and you will never truly understand why they chose to leave but you will know they are in a better place and you will know they are at PEACE. Luke Allen Bischer found that peace on Sunday, June 1, 2026 at his home in Evart. Since a young boy he knew this world wasn’t for him, he has had several highs and several lows, he gave everything he could to find the happy, the value and to be content. This isn’t to say since his birth on July 30, 2004 in Big Rapids, MI that he didn’t know he was the world for his family and that they loved him, this isn’t to say that he didn’t have support because he knew he did, this isn’t to say he didn’t feel complete happiness or make others completely happy and enrich lives because he did. This is to say that sometimes, something’s just can’t be fixed or understood, no matter how long or how often one tries.

Luke was a dedicated employee at DG Market in Reed City. He was an avid gamer, who was always thinking of the next vehicle to build on the 3D simulator. Luke was an artist and loved to write stories. He was strong willed in his beliefs and often unwavering.

Luke looked at animals and his pets through their eyes and they were family. The fire in Hersey, at his childhood home, this last December took so many of them from him but he was determined (all the family is) to somehow make life’s trials into something good. Luke was also proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dolores and Steven Malcolm, paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Bischer and an infant sibling known as peanut.

In his passing, he was still trying to look out for each family member. Left trying to navigate through this next chapter are: his parents, Jerome and Laura of Evart; siblings, Dustin, Elizabeth and Isabella “Henry” Bischer; childhood friend and confidant, Tristin McConnell; paternal grandfather, Ronald Bischer Sr.; Uncles and Aunts, Ronald (Arlene) Bischer Jr., Mary Massy, Andrew (Pamela) Bischer, and Anthony (Ana) Bischer and many extended family and friends.

On July 18th (time yet to be determined), we will host a life celebration, 17527 110th Ave., Evart. In honor of Luke, we will start new beginnings and do what he would want- and be our best. Please bring a story to share, note cards will be provided. We will need them to get through the valleys.
