The nationally third-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad, which has a nation-leading 25 wins to date and is riding a 13-game win streak, has been chosen as this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II National "Team Of The Week".
The Bulldogs improved to 25-1 overall and 15-1 in the GLIAC with a road sweep in Ohio last week to earn the distinction for the firs time.
In last week's action, the Bulldogs picked up a convincing 80-55 win at Tiffin on Thursday, then on Saturday rallied from a late 10-point deficit to beat Ashland 97-91 in overtime. Ferris State sent Saturday's contest into the extra period on a buzzer-beater from midcourt by senior guard Peter Firlik.
Currently, the Bulldogs ranked third in the NABC Division II National Coaches Poll and have also been the #2 team in the Division II Sports Information Directors (D2SIDA) National Rankings the last two weeks. FSU is also first in the MLive Grand Rapids Press Statewide Power Poll.
The Bulldogs can secure a second consecutive GLIAC Regular-Season Championship with a win on the road this week. FSU currently holds a three-game lead over second place Lake Superior State with four games remaining in the regular-season.
This week, the Bulldogs visit Michigan Tech on Thursday (Feb. 15) night for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league game in Houghton before facing Northern Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 17) starting at 1 p.m. (ET) in Marquette.
