Two people are in critical condition following a car accident in Mecosta Co.

It happened Sunday afternoon on 30^th Avenue (M-66) and 5 Mile Rd.

Police say an investigation revealed that a pickup was traveling southbound on 30^th Ave. and pulled right onto 5 Mile Rd.  The pickup then attempted to make a u-turn directly in the path of the south bound tractor trailer.  The driver of the tractor trailer attempted to avoid the pickup but was unable to and struck the pickup broadside. 

Neither speed not alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.

The driver of the tractor trailer received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. 

Both occupants of the pickup were flown from the scene by Aeromed to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital. 

They are listed in critical condition.
