Mecosta County Sheriff Deputies say a man was taken to the hospital after he hit a tree with his vehicle Wednesday in Martiny Township.

The accident occurred when a 63-year old Mecosta man left 110th Ave just South of 15 Mile Rd in Martiny Twp.

The man then traveled through a field for approximately a tenth of a mile before striking a tree causing the vehicle to stop.

The driver told police he had passed out from a coughing spell while driving and did not remember the accident.

The man was taken to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to deputies, alcohol is also believed to be a factor in the accident.
