A.O. Smith recalls Ultra Low NOx model water heaters due to fire hazard

A.O. Smith is recalling water heaters due to potential fire hazard.

According to the recall notice, the gas burner screen on the Ultra-Low NOx models develop tears, which can cause too much heat and possibly a fire.

It includes 30, 40, 50 gallons natural or propane gas-fired water heaters.

A.O Smith says the affected models have the first four digit serial number between 1115 and 1631.

They were also sold under several brand names, including ones like Kenmore and Whirlpool.

If this affects your machine, turn it off and contact A.O. Smith to see if a free repair is necessary.

So far the company has received six reports of fires.
