Thanksgiving is a time for friends and family but it's also the number one day for kitchen fires in the state of Michigan.

 

Consumers who use portable deep fryers to cook turkeys should know the dangers involved and consider an oil-less fryer which is a safer alternative to cook their turkey.

 

State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer says that if you are going to use an oil fryer, do NOT use it in a garage, on or under a deck, breezeway, porch or inside any structure.

 

Sehlmeyer also warns folks to pay attention to their stove.

 

Unattended cooking is the leading cause of residential fires in the U.S., especially on Thanksgiving.
