Vitro automotive confirmed today that unprecedented disruption on the U.S. automotive industry and the severity of the economic impact from the coronavirus response has forced the company to the difficult decision that it intends to permanently close its Evart, Michigan auto glass-making operations effective June 30.
The closure affects 125 employees in the Evart operation.
Depending on automakers’ schedules for restarting production, there may be an opportunity for Vitro to temporarily restart the Evart operation for a limited period of time before closing on June 30. It is unlikely that any such limited restart would result in us revisiting the closure decision.
“This is a very challenging time in our country, and a very difficult decision for our company,” said Vitro Auto President Salvador Minarro. “But our focus now is on supporting our employees and their families throughout this transition.”
The company says they will continue to update everyone throughout the process to ensure employees and their families have all the information they need.
