The JC Penney's store in downtown Big Rapids is closing its doors. 

 

The company announced the closure on Monday, along with 12 additonal store closures nationwide. 

 

Last week, JC Penney announced store closures in Cadillac, Mt. Pleasant, Traverse City and Petoskey. 

 

According to the retailer's website, "The decision was made following a comprehensive review of our retail footprint, JCPenney made the difficult decision to close 136 store closures on June 17 and an additional 13 closures on June 22. We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want."
