A day after the first shipments of a coronavirus vaccine left a Pfizer plant in Portage, south of Kalamazoo, the first vaccinations could be administered today.
Health officials say it will be the biggest vaccination effort in American history.
About three million doses of the vaccine were expected to be shipped out of the facility Sunday.
A statement from the Michigan Health Department said 56 hospitals and 16 local health departments will be receiving the first 84-thousand doses that are distributed in the state and the first vaccinations were expected to be administered today.
Health care workers, first responders and nursing home staff and residents will be given first priority.
