The Big Rapids City Commission approved the annual interest rate for city income taxes during its first meeting of the year Monday night.

According to the resolution commissioners approved the the new annual interest rate of 5.65%. The rate is established by state officials at the Revenue Administrative Bulletin part of the state Treasury Department. Last year's rate was 4.27%.

In other business, Commissioners approved a resolution extending the property listing at 906 N. State Street with Remax together. City Treasurer Carla Staffen presented Commissioners with a quarterly investment report.

New Public Relations/Communications coordinator for Big Rapids Lilly Franklin was also introduced to the commission. Franklin has been on the job for the last week.
