Whitehall used a dominant second quarter run to hand Big Rapids their fifth loss on the season Tuesday night.
The Cardinals hung in the first quarter of the contest, holding the powerhouse Viking offense to only five points through the first eight minutes. Whitehall would answer with a vengeance to start the second quarter, using multiple three-point shots to make an 8-0 run. They would extend the lead to 29-10 at halftime.
While the Cardinals found some success getting to the rim in the second half, the Vikings would answer with three-pointers of their own to grow the lead. Both offenses would explode in the fourth quarter, combining for 41 combined points in the frame to finish the ball game.
Big Rapids was led by Gabe Njenga, who totaled an estimated 19 points on 9/21 shooting and added seven rebounds. Cole Haist added seven points, followed by JaReese Moten with four and Liam McLaughlin with three. Ty Gielczyk left the game and did not return due to a lower leg injury in the first half.
Whitehall was paced by future Western Michigan Bronco, Cam Thompson, who had approximately 21 points and 17 rebounds. Pierce Westerlund added 12 points off the bench and Brock Morningstar contributed seven.
Big Rapids falls to 11-5 on the season and will await a home, rivalry matchup against Reed City on Friday. Whitehall improves to 14-3 and will host Muskegon Oakridge later this week.
