On Sunday, Feb. 11, at approximately 3:24 P.M., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.
Dispatch advised that a pedestrian jumped in front of a single-cab truck pulling a trailer and was then lying in the road on Michigan Ave. at the intersection of Sixth St. In a recent social media update on Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Sheriff's Office clarified that the accident was not intentional, but accidental.
Deputies arrived at the scene to see a male lying in the roadway. Life-saving efforts were attempted; however, the victim was pronounced dead. The victim was a 58-year-old man from Baldwin.
Evidence from the preliminary investigation supported the incident being accidental. A 27-year-old man from White Cloud was charged with driving on a suspended license and causing death.
