A Special Weather Statement has been issued by NWS Grand Rapids until 6:00 P.M. for Clare, Isabella, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, and Osceola Counties.

According to the statement, bands of lake effect snow have been streaming inland off Lake Michigan. This brings gusty west winds up to 30 MPH at times.

This combination brings very low visibility, as low as a half mile, in some few spots. Northbound and southbound roads could see drifting snow as well, leading to hazardous travel conditions. 

Motorists should be alert for sudden changes to the visibility and be prepared for locally slick travel through the evening commute.
