On Thursday, Feb. 13, at approximately 10:10 P.M., deputies from the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Croton Pond in Croton Township for a water emergency.
According to the release, the caller reported that two individuals had fallen through the ice while riding snowmobiles. Upon arrival, deputies found that one of the individuals had safely exited the water and made it to shore. The second individual remained in the water at the time of arrival. Firefighters from the Croton Fire Department were able to make contact with the individual in the water and safely rescued him.
Both individuals were transported to Gerber Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for hypothermia. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.
The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Croton Fire Department, Newaygo County Central Dispatch, and Life EMS.
