Due to significant flooding on the Muskegon River, the city of Evart and Sylvan Township have declared a local state of emergency.
According to the Evart Fire Department, water levels are reportedly flowing over 50th Avenue, Trout Drive, Miller Drive and Marylynn Drive.
“At this time, several areas are inaccessible due to high water levels, and there is growing concern that critical infrastructure within the city may be threatened as river levels continue to rise,” the Evart Fire Department said in a post. “We are closely monitoring a critical concern at the Water Works location, where rising water levels may begin to impact the pump station.”
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning, beginning at 2 a.m. Monday, April 6, for areas along the Muskegon River between 5 Mile Road and M-66. The warning will last until Tuesday morning, April 7.
“At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, the stage was 11.6 feet,” NWS Grand Rapids stated. “The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.0 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow afternoon.”
Water levels have been monitored since Friday by Osceola County Emergency Management.
