A 15-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday, July 22, following a dirt bike crash in Newaygo County.

According to a release by Michigan State Police, troopers responded to a dispatch call around 7:52 a.m. near Luce Road near 48th Street. It was found that a 15-year-old from Fremont had crashed his dirt bike into a septic truck.

The juvenile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was taken to the Corewell Health Gerber Hospital in Fremont. He then died from his injuries a short time after.

"Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors," Michigan State Police said. "Based on the preliminary investigation, the juvenile is believed to have been the at-fault driver."

The 42-year-old man from Newaygo operating the septic truck was not injured.

The crash currently remains under investigation at this time.
