On Sunday, July 26, Mecosta County deputies responded to a two-vehicle collision that sent three people to the hospital. 

The crash occurred around 5:12 p.m. near the intersection of 30th Avenue and 17 Mile Road in Sheridan Township. Both vehicles were found in a marsh when deputies arrived.

According to the investigation, a 79-year-old woman from Hastings was traveling southbound on 30th Avenue and attempted a U-turn at the intersection with 17 Mile Road. Her Subaru was struck by a Pontiac driven by a 37-year-old woman from Stanton, forcing the Subaru off the roadway into the marsh. An 83-year-old woman from Flushing and a 71-year-old woman from Swartz Creek were also in the Subaru. 

“All three Subaru occupants were transported to McLaren Central Michigan Hospital in Mount Pleasant for serious but non-life-threatening injuries via Mecosta County Emergency Medical Services,” deputies said. “The driver of the Pontiac also had a 40-year-old male passenger from Stanton. The driver sustained minor injuries and was evaluated by EMS on scene and released. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in this incident.” 

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Barryton Fire Rescue, Mecosta County Emergency Medical Services and Mecola Central Dispatch.
