At about 9:47 p.m. Friday, a 35-year-old Remus woman and a 39-year-old Mecosta man were killed in a two-car crash in Sheridan Township.

According to deputies, an F-150 truck driven by a 32-year-old man from Remus was traveling eastbound on 13 Mile Road north of Mecosta. As the truck crossed the intersection of 55th Avenue, a Kia Sportage failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the truck. The SUV rolled into a ditch southeast of the intersection and was pinned between several trees and the truck.

Both occupants of the Kia were killed, while the F-150 occupant was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Big Rapids.

“This incident remains under investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision,” the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office said. “During the investigation, both lanes on 13 Mile Road and 55th Avenue had been shut down. They have since been reopened.”

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Wheatland Township Fire Rescue, Mecosta County Emergency Medical Services, Meceola Central Dispatch, Mid Michigan Medical Examiners Group, Gilbert-Daggett Funeral Home of Barryton, Mecosta County Victim Services and Currie’s Towing.
