A 48-year-old Ionia man died Saturday evening after a crash in Aetna Township.

The crash occurred just before 6:26 p.m. on Aug. 22 near the intersection of 200th Avenue and Jefferson Road, just west of Morley near U.S. 131. Upon arrival at the scene, the driver was found unresponsive behind the wheel and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

“Life-saving measures were performed by first responders at the scene; however, the man was unable to be resuscitated,” deputies said. “Preliminary investigation revealed the man had been leaving the park-and-ride on 200th Avenue when he suffered a severe medical episode and drove into the west ditch. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash.”

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mecosta County Emergency Medical Services, Morley Area Fire Rescue, Mecosta Central Dispatch, Mid-Michigan Medical Examiners Group, Currie’s Towing and Daggett’s Funeral Home of Barryton.
