Categories: Local News

Recently reelected local officials Tom Kunse and Roger Hauck have been selected to lead their respective Republican caucuses.

State Rep. Tom Kunse, R-Clare, was selected Thursday, Nov. 5, to serve as House Republican leader for the upcoming 104th Legislature. Kunse was reelected to a third term in Michigan’s 100th House District in Tuesday’s election.

“We are going to put the team first and unite behind a clear vision for making Michigan more affordable, strengthening our economy and holding government accountable,” Kunse said. “We will stand up for our principles, but we will also work in good faith to get things done. House Republicans came out of the minority just two years ago. We know what it takes to earn back the majority, and that comeback begins now.”

The full House Republican leadership team includes:

  • Republican Leader: Tom Kunse
  • Assistant Republican Leader: Rachelle Smit
  • Republican Floor Leader: Mike Harris
  • Assistant Floor Leaders: Parker Fairbairn and Josh Schriver
  • Republican Whip: Bill Schuette
  • Deputy Whip: Jennifer Wortz
  • Caucus Chair: Ken Borton
  • Caucus Vice Chair: Alicia St. Germaine

Sen. Roger Hauck, R-Mount Pleasant, was elected unanimously as Senate Republican leader. Hauck was reelected to the 34th Senate District on Tuesday; he was first elected to the Senate in 2022.

“I’m honored to have the support of my colleagues and the opportunity to lead our caucus,” Hauck said. “We have a strong team ready to tackle the challenges facing Michigan families. Our state has fallen behind in jobs, education and too many other areas. Republicans are committed to offering a better path forward.”

The full Senate Republican leadership team includes:

  • Republican Leader: Roger Hauck
  • Republican Floor Leader: Thomas Albert
  • Republican Whip: John Wetzel (senator-elect)
  • Republican Caucus Chair: Gina Johnsen (senator-elect)
  • Assistant Republican Leader: Michele Hoitenga
  • Assistant Republican Floor Leader: Mike Murphy (senator-elect)
  • Assistant Republican Whip: Donni Steele (senator-elect)
  • Assistant Republican Caucus Chair: Jonathan Lindsey

The senate leadership team will serve from 2027 to 2030.
