Grant Center - Larry Richard Van Alstine, 69, of Grant Center, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 7, 1953, in Lake, MI, the son of Elmer and Maxine (Van Westrienen) Van Alstine and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1972. Larry was married to Barbara Robbins from October 1972 until June 2006. Together they had 4 children, Cheryl (Andy) Taylor of Chippewa Lake, Tim (Pam) Van Alstine of Hersey, Karen (Torry) Van Alstine of Mt. Pleasant, Sally (Justin) Cavender of Barryton and daughter by proxy, Toni (John) Henry.

Larry was blessed with 13 beautiful grandchildren: Luke, Lauren, April (Zack), Levi, Ashley (Raymond), Courtney (Tommy), Lacey (Michael), Kevin, Michael, Sarah (Jake), Peyton, Virginia, Rachael and 11 great-grandchildren.

Larry spent his time working on the family farm. He also worked at the Big Rapids Box Factory and helped with carpentry work over the years. He was a kindhearted soul who would do anything for anyone, loved playing guitar, listening to music and caring for horses. Larry loved the farm and more importantly his family.

Larry is survived by his mother, Maxine; his brother Brian Van Alstine; his sisters, Nancy (John) Holdsworth and Shery (Mike) Rubicz;, his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Tinna Baumgardner. He was preceded in death by his father Elmer Van Alstine.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ken Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Grant Center Cemetery. Larry’s family will greet friends and family beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
