Theodore Rex Salinas, 11, of Big Rapids

Sometimes in life there are accidents that take the life of a loved one and leave those who survive with a broken heart. By the grace of God, in time broken hearts are mended and the loved one lives on through the memories of those who survive.

Theodore Rex Salinas passed, into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at home. While Theodore will be immeasurably missed, his family expresses their gratitude to God for the time they had with him, and the impact he had on those who truly got to know him.

Theodore was born on August 31, 2012 in Big Rapids, Michigan to Jonathan & Darcy (Daggy) Salinas, where he was raised until 2015, when the family moved to Evart. While not quite twelve, Theodore, has been known most of his life as an “Old Soul”. He was a kind hearted boy who acted wise for his age.

He was a voracious reader, with the unique gift of committing to memory most of what he read. At an early age he devoured information about tractors and farming. Eventually that interest shifted to history, and warfare, and most recently ducks and poultry. If you took the time to talk with Theodore, the conversation probably would have resulted in you listening. Most times he got to the point, in his own roundabout way. Those with time to listen, typically couldn’t help learning something new. His ability to tell stories sometimes left you wondering if they were fact or fiction.

Theodore loved time spent with family. He was his mother’s skiing partner, his father’s hockey companion, and his younger brother, Oliver’s, closest friend. He loved his grandparents, and jumped at the opportunities to help them cut wood, work with sheep, or accompany them to horse shows.

When he wasn’t with his family, and his hands weren’t holding a book, Theodore enjoyed: classic rock, his countless animals, most especially the ducks he raised, as well as; participating in 4-H, playing Pop Warner Football, and recently kyaking and fishing. Theodore loved his church family at Crossroads. He was always by his parent’s side wanting to serve. It didn't matter whether that was frying bacon, making coffee, or handing out hot chocolate. You couldn’t attend Crossroads and be indecisive on your choice of tea, without Theodore being there to offer a recommendation.

Theodore lives on through those around him. His family includes: parents, Jonathan and Darcy; his brother, Oliver; paternal grandparents, Alan and Rae Marie Salinas; maternal grandparents, Sheri and John Frick and Danny and (Joan Wolverton) Daggy; paternal great grandparents, Andres and Doris Salinas; numerous, aunts, uncles, extended family, friends and everyone else he adopted along the way.

Theodore was preceded in death by his great grandparents Duane and Lorraine Daggy, Russell and Norma Bunger, Otto and Anna Frick, and Rex and Joan Cruikshank (whom Theodore Rex was named after).

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 26th at 5 PM with visitation beginning at 3:30 PM at Crossroads Community Church, 110 S. Main St., Evart (231) 734-1100. Pastor Rob Rounds will be officiating. With Theodore's sudden passing it is unknown at this time how donations will be used to memorialize him.

Donations can to be left at Crossroads (or crossroadsevart.org) where a fund has been established in Theodore's name; for online giving, there is a drop down menu with a giving option towards the Salinas Family. Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Corey Funeral Home in Evart. Share with us online at www.coreyfuneralhome.com
