Gerald Thomas Dennis, age 90 of Evart, passed away on August 2, 2024 at Blodgett Grand Rapids. Jerry was born in Pontiac,on August 5, 1933 to Herman and Ethel (Baker) Dennis. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and proudly served his country, during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge.
Jerry worked for GM Pontiac in tool and die. On December 18, 1971 he married Judith S. Grant, in Clarkston, and they made their home in Waterford, where they raised their family. In 2000, Jerry retired which gave him more time to spend at the cottage up north. In 2008 the cottage, at Saddleback lake became their permanent residence. Jerry was an avid fisherman and seldom passed up the chance to go. He loved to go out on the pontoon and enjoyed a good game of golf. Riding around the neighborhood in the golf cart gave him the perfect chance to socialize, possibly tell some good jokes or play a prank or two. It really didn't matter to Jerry if it was the doctors, nurses, the waitress or the roofers, he didn't pass up the opportunity to leave a lasting impression.
Even with his Parkinson's Jerry was going to do- what Jerry was going to do. As this chapter of Jerry's life closed, a new chapter for those who survive him, begins. They include: his beloved wife of 52 years, Judith of Evart; 7 children, Cheryl Holiday, Gerald Jr. "Butch" (Karen) Dennis, Joyce Martina, Susan (Larry) Gentry, Amy (Joe Farlow) Dennis, Christy (Jim) Vanderpool and Michael (Amanda) Dennis; 16 grandchildren 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
There was probably one huge celebration when Jerry got to heaven. He's now reunited with 13 siblings and his parents.
The twinkle in Jerry's eye when he was up to no good, his energetic smile and distinctive laugh will be missed. We can only hope that he is somewhere in God's kingdom doing what he loves the most…. tying on a fly, fluidly casting the line and catching the biggest bass ever.
His celebration of life with military honors is being planned for Saturday, August 24th at 1 PM at the Family's home. Memorial contributions in Jerry’s name can be made to St. Jude or the Humane Society. Share a memory online at www.coreyfuneralhome.com.
