Glenn T. Patrick, age 95 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born January 8, 1929, in Mancelona, MI, the son of Andrew S. and Alice O. (Fultz) Patrick.
Glenn is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Marilyn to whom Glenn was a loving, caring and providing husband; children, Adriana Beckwith of Big Rapids, Janice (Chris Paynich) Patrick-Haan of Mattawan, MI, Glenn Andrew (Norma) Patrick of Gaylord, Mark (Nancy) Patrick of Boyne City, Brett (Heidi Beem-Patrick) Patrick of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Glenn was the last surviving sibling in a close-knit family of 13 brothers and sisters.
Glenn led an adventurous young man’s life. He began sailing on the Great Lakes at the age of 15. After graduation, he attended Davenport Business College. Then later joined the Merchant Marines and began sailing saltwater traveling to over 32 countries. He often spoke of his adventures at sea and the men he sailed with. Upon return, Glenn enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington and later transferred to Germany where he was assigned to the Big Red 1.
Glenn found his true life’s passion as a sales professional. As an independent agent for State Farm Insurance, he earned the respect of his company, his colleagues and community. Glenn earned many of the highest professional achievements and designations that were offered by State Farm and the insurance industry during his 40-year career. He served community as a past president of the Big Rapids Rotary Club. Glenn also loved the hard work and satisfaction of farming. Glenn gave his family a strong work ethic and his legacy will be continued through the values he instilled in his family.
He was an active and dedicated member of the Woodville Community Church. His faith guided him in everything he did, providing him with joy and solace during challenging times. He led by example. While he will be greatly missed by his family, they are so honored to have been part of his life and will cherish his legacy that touched many lives beyond his own.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Woodville Community Church with Pastor Brett Werner officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services.
