Betty Lou Pontz, 89, of Reed City

Betty Lou Pontz peacefully met our precious Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at her daughter's home surrounded by family.  She was 89.

She was born on May 7, 1935 in Reed City to William and Viola Torry and was one of nine children.  Betty was confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1949.  She later graduated from Reed City High School with the class of 1953.  On May 6, 1967 she was married at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City to Glenn Aurthor Pontz who preceded her in death in 1999.  Betty worked at the Wolverine Glove Plant in Reed City for 42 years before working at the local Burger King for another 22 years; retiring at 82 years old.  After being a lifelong resident of Reed City, Betty spent the last four years living in Williamsburg with her daughter and son-in-law to be closer to family.  She had a passion for reading, movies, card games and spending quality time with family, especially her great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughter Luann (Jim) Snider, stepsons Jeff Pontz and Scott Pontz; grandchildren: Jonathan (Brianne) Snider, Tory (Carly) Snider and Autumn Pontz.  She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren: Thea, Reina, Hailey, Eiza and William; siblings Billy (Jane) Torry, Dale (Emma) Torry and former sister in-law Sue Smith; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Pontz; parents William and Viola Torry; and siblings Wallace, Marvin, Arliene, Margery, Alvin and Kitty.

Funeral services to celebrate Betty’s life was held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City MI.  Visitation with the family took place from 9-11 A.M. followed by the service.  The family welcomes everyone to join them for a luncheon and fellowship immediately after the conclusion of the service in the fellowship hall.  Committal services and burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City after the luncheon.

In Betty’s memory, a memorial contribution may be made in her name to Hospice of Michigan.  The organization and staff were wonderful and caring for Betty in her final days.
