Sondra Gene Lathrop passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, at The Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI surrounded by loved ones.

Sondra was born on June 10, 1938, in Big Moses, West Virginia, the daughter of Nelle Joan (Fiber) and David "Jiggs" Spencer. The family moved to Michigan when Sondra was two years old. She was raised in Reed City and graduated from Reed City High School in 1956. She married the love of her life, Larry Ivan Lathrop in 1956. They later bought the farm in 1960 and built a home together in Chase to raise their family. Together, Sondra and Larry built, owned, and operated a machine shop in Leroy, MI called Northern Precision in 1984. 

Sondra was a hardworking woman, and in her younger years she worked at Michigan Bell Telephone and Big Rapids Community Hospital. Sondra’s true passion was working outside at her home in her many flower and vegetable gardens, canning, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and family, making many wonderful memories together on their farm. 

She will be dearly missed by her loving sons, Kyle Lathrop of Idlewild, Eric (Sherrie) Lathrop of Lakeview; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers; many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Sondra was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sons, and other extended family members. 

Funeral services was held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. Sondra’s family greeted family and friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Following the funeral, Sondra will be laid to rest next to Larry at Chase Township Cemetery in Chase. A luncheon will be announced at the service, if you would like to join the family. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Michigan, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
