Carmelo "Butch" Palumbo, age 80, of Stanwood, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 9, 2024. Born on November 27, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Butch was the son of Frank and Josephine Palumbo. He graduated from Denby High School and enjoyed a successful career as a truck driver, beginning at Bejin Trucking and later joining UPS.

On October 18, 2003, Butch married Jan, his beloved wife and partner, with whom he shared a deep bond and created many wonderful memories together and with their families. Butch was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, camping, and spending time with his horses. He also loved playing cards, watching his favorite Westerns, and dancing. For over 20 years, Butch and Jan hosted the annual week-long Palumbo family reunions, a testament to his dedication to family, which he valued above all. His favorite time was spent with friends and family. 

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Jan Palumbo; children, Janice (Edie) Palumbo, Maureen (Todd) Marra, Chris (Sara) Palumbo, Deana (Phil) Andrews, Heather (Terry) Custer, and Jake (Niccole) Erickson; grandchildren, Shelby, Courtney, Anthony, Colin, Ava, Jaden, Julian, Isabella, Jared, Madison, Paris, Aubrey, Case, and Tenni; and great-grandchild, Elie. He is also survived by his sisters, Frances Chiesa and JoAnn (Joe) Tersigni; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Irene D'Angelo; brothers-in-law, Pete D'Angelo and David Chiesa; and his nephew, Nick, with whom he shared a special bond.

Memorial services was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Northland Global Methodist Church in Stanwood, with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions may be directed to Northland Global Methodist Church, Big Rapids Eagles Aerie 2535, or Hospice of Michigan.
