Dallas D. Thirey, 93 years young, of Dearborn, formerly of Hersey, passed to Glory on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Dallas was born on April 22, 1931 in Reed City, to Raymond Roderick and Charlotte Elnora (Leach) Thirey. In 1949, he graduated from Mackenzie H.S. in Detroit and entered the U.S. Marine Corps until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1953. Three days later, he married the love of his life Dorothy "Dorrie" McAlpin on December 26th and they had one son, David McAlpin Thirey.
Dallas earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Detroit then continued on to receive his master's degree from Central Michigan in 1972. In 1986 after many years of service at Ford Motor Company, he retired as a supervisor and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. They opened a Hallmark Store, became members of the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, The Gainey Ranch Country Club, and were founding members of Scots of the West Valley. Dallas and Dorrie enjoyed traveling, sailing and ballroom dancing. In 2001, Dorrie preceded him in passing and he would spend his time between AZ and MI, where he often attended the Hersey U.M.C.
In April of this year, Dallas moved back to Michigan full time to be closer to his family whose lives he was instrumental in. Dallas had a kind heart, strong will and steadfast faith. He was always looking out for those in need with a sense of humor and sound advice. Dallas will be truly missed by: his daughter-in-law, Carol Thirey; and numerous family, extended family and friends, both in Michigan and Arizona, who will be forever grateful for the time they had him in their lives.
Dallas is reunited with: his wife, Dorrie; son, David Thirey; brother, Jack (Marge) Thirey; nephew, Dennis Thirey; and his beloved dogs, Mackenzie and Ranger.
Services was held at 12 PM, Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Corey Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior (11AM to 12PM). He will be laid to rest next to his beloved Dorrie at Hersey Village Cemetery with Pastor Trevor Guiles officiating. Expressions of sympathy can be shared online at www.coreyfuneralhome.com.
