Albert Joseph Rohe, 89, of Hersey

Albert Joseph Rohe of Hersey, Michigan passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Reed City Fields. He was 89 years old.

Albert (Al) was born on August 18, 1935 in Leaton, MI to Barbara I. (Thorpe) and Albert C. Rohe. They moved to Reed City

when he was very young. The family operated A.C. Rohe Trucking where Al fine tuned his mechanical skills while working along side his dad.

Al graduated from Reed City High School with the class of 1954. After serving honorably for two years in the U.S. Army he attended Central Michigan College where he got to know Joan Apsey while they shared rides back and forth from college. They were married on August 8, 1959 at St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church in Reed City. After living in many places within the Reed City area they built their family home near Hersey.

Al was a tool and die maker by trade. He started as an apprentice at Reed City Tool and Die where he worked for over 15 years. He then worked at Chippewa Plastics in Evart for 33 years where he helped build the business eventually buying the company with co-owner, Jon Holmes and serving as President until his retirement in 2010 at age 75.

Al was known as a quiet man of many talents. He was always busy taking care of whatever needed to be done...fixing things, snow plowing, yardwork, woodworking, tinkering and creating things. He was quite the craftsman. Family and friends treasure many of his woodworking projects.

He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by daughters Carrie (Mark) Buss of Hersey, Amy (Bruce) Keyes of Crystal, and Ruth (Scott) Ridderman of Hersey; grandchildren Joseph Young, Alex (Emily) Ridderman, Adam Ridderman, Michael (Paige) Buss, Allison (David) Toner, Elizabeth Buss and Dalton (Julianne Galinis) Keyes; great-grandchildren Oliver and Clara Ridderman, Eddie Buss and Baby Buss on the way; brothers Fred (Laura Sabat) Rohe and John (Brenda) Rohe; sister-in-law Joyce Apsey; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Joan of 63 years in December 2022; parents Albert C. and Barbara Rohe; in-laws Joyce and Joseph Apsey; brother Charles Rohe; and brother-in-laws Richard (Dolores), John, Eldon, and Allen Emery Apsey.

Funeral services was held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church in Reed City. Visitation with family begins at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Reed City.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Albert's name to Saint Philip-Neri Catholic Church or an organization of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Reed City Fields for their compassionate care.
