Martin E. Davis Jr., 67, of Hersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. He was born on March 30, 1957, in Big Rapids, Michigan, to Martin and Josephine (Ottobre) Davis.

Martin grew up on the family farm near Big Rapids, where he developed a passion for mechanics and a love of drag racing in his younger years. His enthusiasm for working on cars evolved into a lifelong dedication to restoring antique tractors, and he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone facing car or tractor troubles.

Martin’s love of history and the outdoors was a cornerstone of his life. He and his wife, Wendy, shared 38 wonderful years together, raising their family with cherished memories of camping trips, visits to tractor shows, and exploring historical sites. These traditions became beloved experiences for his grandchildren, who joined him in creating lasting memories.

An avid collector, Martin enjoyed Lionel model trains and John Deere tractors, pursuits that reflected his fascination with machinery and craftsmanship.

Martin is survived by his devoted wife, Wendy; his children: Martin Davis, Rebecca (David) Scherf, Robert (Christina) Davis, and Quinton (Miranda) Davis; his 11 cherished grandchildren; and his mother, Josephine (Ottobre) Davis. He also leaves behind his siblings: Raymond John Davis, Mary Myers, and Lisa Davis; and daughters-in-law, Amanda G. Davis and Amanda R. Davis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Davis; his siblings: Kristina Davis, James V. Davis, and Margaret (Peggy) Davis; and his grandparents, James and Elizabeth Ottobre, and Vernon Davis.

Funeral services to celebrate Martin’s life was held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes in Big Rapids. Interment will follow at Crapo Cemetery, with a luncheon to be held afterward.
