Brian Keith Thompson, 67, of Hersey

Brian Keith Thompson, affectionately known as “Barney” to many of his friends, passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was 67 years old.

Brian was a lifelong resident of Hersey, Michigan. He was born and raised on 170th Avenue, just outside of town, where he grew up under the loving care of his parents, Bernard (“Bernie”) and Avis Thompson. As the second oldest of four boys, Brian’s childhood was filled with camaraderie, adventure, and the values that would shape him into the man he became.

Brian is survived by his son, Brian J. Thompson "B.J."; his mother, Avis Thompson; his brothers, Roger (Konnie) Thompson and Alan (Chris) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard Thompson; his brother, Steven Thompson; and his beloved dog and best friend, Bros.

Brian dedicated 39 years to Ventra – Evart Products, starting his career on July 27, 1983, and working tirelessly until his forced retirement in September 2022 due to his cancer diagnosis. His work ethic, loyalty, and dedication were a testament to his character.

Brian had a lifelong love of vehicles, from Monte Carlos and Ford Mustangs to pickup trucks, but his ultimate favorite was his CJ Jeep. His passion for cars and the open road was rivaled only by his love for the outdoors. Summers were his sanctuary, with the hot sun shining down bringing him his greatest happiness.

Brian’s connection to his dog, Bros, was unparalleled. When Bros passed away on September 26, 2024, after 18 cherished years together, it marked a profound turning point in Brian’s life. Bros was more than a pet; he was Brian’s best friend and constant companion.

A man of few words, Brian’s humor and vast knowledge of trivia made him a joy to be around. He could rival any Jeopardy contestant and loved sharing jokes that were as sharp as they were clever. His willingness to assist anyone in need and go the extra mile, expecting nothing in return, exemplified his selfless and generous spirit.

Brian’s passions extended to gardening, where he cultivated the best tomatoes and could often be found with a salt shaker and tomatoes in his pocket. His talent for whipping up an “army supper” at any time of the day added to his charm and practicality.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Evart Moose Lodge 2452, located at 8400 US-10, Evart, MI 49631. Family, friends, and former co-workers are invited to join us in sharing memories, stories, and laughter. In honor of Brian’s love for happiness and togetherness, let’s create a joyful environment to celebrate his incredible life.

Cremation has taken place through the care of Corey Funeral Home, Evart, Michigan.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible team of professionals who supported my dad throughout his journey. From Dr. Figueroa and Dr. Robell (Neurosurgery), Dr. Bott-Kothari (MD), and Andrew Chang (Thoracic Surgery), to Dr. Eliason (Vascular), Dr. Al (Oncology), and Nurse Navigator Mrs. Dana Simatos, your expertise and compassion made a profound difference. Dana, who introduced us to this exceptional team, stayed connected even after moving to another facility, continuing to check on Dad’s progress—a testament to her unwavering dedication. To Myra Warners (RN), Regina Cushway (RN), Chase Platts, and many others, your care and support brought comfort to our family in difficult times.

Our deepest gratitude also goes to Corewell Health Hospice and Palliative Care for standing by us every step of the way. Your dedication extended Dad’s time with us and eased our journey. Special thanks to Nurse Megan and the incredible daily support from Mark and Lakeshia, who ensured Dad was comfortable, cared for, and able to spend his final moments at home, the place he cherished most. Your kindness and commitment will never be forgotten.
