Dona Marie Wethy, 97 of Sears, MI, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2025 peacefully at home. She was born on October 7, 1927 in Pontiac, to Thomas Frank and Hope Marie (Kellermeier) Jilbert. In 1945 she graduated from Pontiac High School and went on to marry John R. "Jack" Wethy. They made their home in Pontiac where they raised their children and she was involved with the United Methodist Church. In the late 90's they moved to Holly and Dona was actively involved in the kitchen making food for any occasion at the Ortonville United Methodist Church. After Jack's passing in 2007, she moved to Goodrich Twp. where she resided until moving up north to her daughter, Claudia's, in 2022.
Dona was a wonderful homemaker who knit beautiful baby sweaters and blankets for numerous family members and friends. She was thoughtful and never missed sending a Hallmark card for a special occasion, especially to her nieces and nephews. As long as there was a football game on you knew where Dona could be found on Saturday and Sunday. She was an avid Detroit Lions fan and proud of their last season. Over the years she grew particularly fond of her son-in-law and his ability to cook, especially the lemon meringue pie and her daughter-in-law’s “stolen bread” at Christmas time. Every morning she looked forward to sharing her toast with her 90 pound grand dog. Dona wasn't afraid to talk to anybody and made them feel welcome.
Dona will be missed but not forgotten by her beloved family that include: son, Kent (Cindy) Wethy; daughter, Claudia (George Potter) Fowler; three grandsons, Eric Shehan-Wethy, Colin (Lisa) Wethy Kearsley (Katrina) Schieder-Wethy and Cody Schieder-Wethy; three great-grandchildren, Adeline, Alan and David; one brother, Kenneth (Mary) Jilbert; sister-in-law, Helen Jilbert and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dona was preceded in death by: her husband, John; parents, Frank and Hope Jilbert; brother, Lewis Jilbert and daughter, Kathy Wethy.
In her memory make a donation to your favorite charity or plant a tree. Dona will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly later this year.
