William "Bill" Lueth, 78, of Big Rapids, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born on September 26, 1946, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Eleanor (Chrastil) Lueth.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked as a supervisor, leading numerous road construction and excavating projects until his retirement.
A devoted Detroit Lions fan, Bill enjoyed watching football and spending time on the golf course, where his competitive spirit thrived—though he insisted that his best swings were always after a beer or two. He also loved playing cards, and in his later years, he took up woodworking, creating many projects that filled him with pride. Bill had a passion for bowling and hunting and loved owning a bowling alley for a time. He loved being behind his bar and serving his favorite people. He never passed up the opportunity for a good time—whether it was sharing drinks, telling a tall tale, or simply hanging out with friends and family, Bill made every moment count.
Left to cherish his memory is his partner in life, Lonna Lewis and her children Valerie (Jim) Lyons, and John (Cassie) Lewis and her grandchildren John, Ana, Renae, Lindy, Jay, and Claire; his children, Kellie (Dan) Newton, Veronica (Brent) Pechumer, his stepsons, Jeff Howell and Tom Howell; his grandchildren, Cachet, Andrew, Cody, Nicholas, Ashley, Noah, Nathan; his step-grandchildren, Faith and Dylan; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Maureen (Alan) Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Lueth; his daughter, Carrie Thames; his grandson, Tyler Thames; and his brother, Richard Lueth and Lonna’s son LaWayne Hill.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Homes in Big Rapids. Visitation will take place from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ARC of Mecosta County.
