Thomas Elwyn Hicks, 92, passed away at home in Evart, on April 1, 2025 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Port Huron, Michigan to William and Rhea (Gardner) Hicks on June 19, 1932. He graduated from Port Huron High School and Port Huron Junior College. Tom graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee in pastoral studies and then graduated from seminary at Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. In 1957, he married his sweetheart, from Port Huron, Janet Nicholson and they served at numerous small churches throughout Michigan. His great pastorate was as a circuit preacher at three churches in the Riley Center area.
While serving the church in the Manchester, Michigan area he attended Eastern Michigan and obtained his Masters Degree in Education. In 1972 the family moved to Evart, Michigan where Tom taught at Evart Elementary School until his retirement from teaching. In the 90's he took a pastorate at Farwell for nine years and continued to preach in small churches, sometimes driving hundreds of miles on a Sunday.
Tom is survived by: his wife, Janet, who cared for him faithfully until the Lord took him home; their three children; Beth (Doug) Redford, William (Sharla) Hicks and Barry (Suzie) Hicks; 7 grandchildren; Jessica, Andrea, Jordan, Aaron, Mark, Levi and Leslie and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 2 pm, Thursday, April 10th at Faith Bible Church in Evart, with visitation one hour prior, 1-2 pm. Pastor Tim Ford officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to; Corewell Hospice, as they took great care of the family during this difficult time, Osceola County Commission on Aging or Faith Bible Church.
