Violet Lois Dennis, 101, of Big Rapids, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 28, 2025. 

She was born on September 27, 1923, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of George and Flossie (Pasanowski) Whitaker. Violet worked in food service at Ferris State University, retiring after many years of service. She and her husband Oscar had been members of Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood and upon moving to Big Rapids attended Third Avenue Methodist Church. 

Violet is survived by two nieces, Mona Matthis and Patricia Richardson; nephew Ronald Heiss; granddaughter Brooke; great granddaughter Alexis; sister-in-law Louise Black; and very special friends and caretakers Jim and Kelly Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, sisters, Marie Hernandez and Edna Heiss, and brother Myron Whitaker. 

Visitation for Violet was Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids. She will be laid to rest next to Oscar in Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids with a private family service. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Meals on Wheels Mecosta County.
